Building Community Identity Through Murals: The Downtown Hollywood Mural Project

The Downtown Hollywood Mural Project (DHMP) is one of South Florida’s most recognized public art programs. Over 12 years, I partnered with the City of Hollywood and property owners to curate and manage more than 40 murals by local, national, and international artists—transforming Downtown Hollywood into a dynamic cultural destination.
HIGHLIGHTS:
Directed curatorial vision and artist selection, building a diverse, world-class roster
Managed all aspects: contracts, permitting, logistics, budgets, installations
Produced community engagement: tours, artist talks, educational programs
Positioned Downtown Hollywood as a cultural hub recognized by media and tourism outlets
IMPACT:
Attracted thousands of annual visitors through mural tours and cultural tourism
Drove economic development and revitalization of the downtown core
Created a model program demonstrating how long-term public art investment can reshape a city’s identity
